Raymond “Tich” Rayner, who served as a platoon sergeant with glider-borne D Company the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry Battalion, 6th Airborne Division on D-Day . Their mission was to spearhead the invasion force by flying in to Normandy in 6 Horsa gliders to capture the Caen Canal and River Orne bridges.
Tich was also among the hundreds of thousands of men evacuated at Dunkirk in 1940 .
